The Ohio Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (OAMIC) is an insurance trade organization. It is comprised of mutual and stock insurance companies which provide property and casualty insurance coverages for the people of Ohio.

Historically, OAMIC member companies have played an important role in protecting and serving the people of Ohio. This protection spans Ohio and serves every segment of the population. Whether providing insurance coverages for farmowners, homeowners, or business owners, each of OAMIC member companies was founded to meet a common need, and provide protection and service to a community.

In 1879, the Association, OAMIC, was brought into being by several, mutual companies that wanted to assist one another in effectively serving the insurance needs of the public.

Today, OAMIC has a membership of more than 50 companies who vary in size from a few thousand in premium dollars to hundreds of millions. Regardless of the diversity of size found in its membership, the Association strives to mirror the commitment of its members to the people of Ohio.

The Ohio Association of Mutual Companies:

• Sponsors education seminars each year, and has National Association assistance with specific and desirable education features.

• Through its associate membership in the Ohio Insurance Institute, we play a role in the education of the public for which the membership serves.

• Brings together its members in a mutual concept, to develop and maintain cooperation among its members.

• Promotes safety and prevention of losses … and loss of life. We work in all matters that are beneficial to the membership.

• Monitors insurance issues, providing reliable communication to our national organizations, legislators, and regulators, as well as our local membership.

• Produces timely publications to keep members informed of insurance issues.

• Holds an annual state convention in June.

• Is directed a board of directors comprised of domiciled member companies.

• Is supported by voluntary committees.

In addition, OAMIC also has an affiliate membership base composed of groups which support the insurance industry. These affiliate members include, but are not limited to, reinsurers, law firms, independent adjusters, accounting firms, and data processing services. It takes a multi-faceted’ organization to effectively assist its members in serving Ohio’s insurance needs. OAMIC’s members furnish their Association with the guidance and support needed to meet the challenges of the present and of the future.
